Australian family and friends Jen and Dean and son Tim along with Carol-Ann Stephen and daughter Madison kicked off the Auckland leg of their New Zealand trip straight off the plane with a Channel View evening BBQ, good kiwi beer and Hawkes Bay wine! A great start to the next few days which they crammed with action including local shopping forays, marveling at the stunning views from the Sky City Tower, enjoying an amazing night out at Cirque du soleil who happened to be in town and much much more!
The highlight was unquestionably experiencing the unique thrill of sailing on America Cup Yacht NZL40 in the Hauraki Gulf - where Madison caused an uproar when she caught a large wave of water as she was concentrating on how she "looked" rather than her sailing technique! All taken in good fun! (Run from the Auckland Viaduct by Explore NZ this ultimate Americas Cup Experience is well worth putting on your list if your ever in town)
A lively bunch who knew how to have a great time and were missed very muchly when they continued their trip down toward Rotorua and Napier. They flew out of NZ four weeks later when we caught up with them at an Airport Restaurant for a wonderful dinner and poignant goodbye.

Sandy and Reg with Pehi and Royna
Sandy and Reg, friends and family in NZ on business took the opportunity to spend a couple relaxing days based at Channel View. Activities started with a 40 minute drive north with stunning coastal sea views to Warkworth. Where, renown for its arts and crafts, it didn't take Reg long to get lost amongst the antique plethora which included carvings, trinkets, jewellery, crockery, vinyl records and much much more from yester-year.
After a magical lunch in one of the many river side restaurants they then took a country drive scattered
Reg, Sandy and Royna at Goat island
with vineyards, farms and quaint little villages following the signs to Goat Island, a protected fish sanctuary.
They didn't need to try the glass bottomed boats as the hundreds of bright colored friendly fish could be viewed easily from the rocks inches from where they stood.
The evening was rounded off nicely with dinner with Channel View hosts, Royna and Pehi at Catch 22, one of the many world class restaurants in the local Browns Bay township ( see photo ). The next morning was a relaxing spa and fully cooked breakfast on the sun deck and back to Auckland city to visit friends. A lovely and enjoyable trip where they collected many memories and real estate magazines. They'll be back! |

Ruud and Will
A Dutch couple from Venlo who came to NZ with the Dutch Moto Guzzi club.
Picked their motorbike up from Auckland then rode off northward intending to travel up to bay of islands etc. They got as far as Browns Bay then broke down (gear box mashed).
They pushed their bike to Channel View and we helped them out with accommodation, mechanics, storing their bike for six weeks whilst they toured New Zealand by rental ( Channel View assisted with arranging suitable rental) and ended up being the best of friends of Pehi and Royna.
Living together for 25 years, they got married in Christchurch while touring!

Vicky Chang and 2 other Taiwanese mums chaperoned 8 children, along with their own, to New Zealand for total English language immersion.
They stayed at Channel View for a period of 2 months and the children were always very well behaved, polite and inquisitive. Channel View became a conference learning centre during the day with various tutors coming and going. And in the evenings a settled and orderly home for all.
In the evening Pehi would often play guitar and harmonica on my back veranda and this never failed to bring the children up to request their favorites – usually songs Pehi never heard of. However, they knew all the Eagles tunes by the time they left!
They all enjoyed their stay with us and we enjoyed having them here at Channel View immensely! And we know there were a couple of tears shed when they drove off in their bus.
